A fine example of Robust Porter. Almost pitch black, with a rich, sweet, malty taste.
Put crushed grains in nylon straining bags and tie closed. Steep the grains in 1½ gallons of 155°F water for 30 minutes. Remove the bag and allow it to drain. Add Dry Malt Extract, Malto-Dextrin and Treacle, top up to 2½ gallons and bring water to a boil. When water boils, add the Bittering hops. Boil for 45 minutes and add the Irish Moss and the Flavour hops. Boil for the final 15 minutes.
